About Dr. Steuer

Max Steuer, MD, is an experienced, board-certified neurosurgeon at Polaris Spine & Neurosurgery Center in Sandy Springs and Smyrna in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. Dr. Steuer has been on the cutting edge of many exciting technological advancements throughout his career. He was the first surgeon in Atlanta to use a CT scan for lumbar surgery and was also the first surgeon in the entire state of Georgia to employ stereotactic navigation in spine surgery.

He grew up in Athens, Georgia. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Steuer focused on surgical training during medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After graduation he completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at Baylor before returning to Georgia to join Polaris Spine & Neurosurgery Center (then, Peachtree Neurosurgery).

By staying up-to-date with the latest advances in neurosurgical techniques, Dr. Steuer introduced new surgical technologies, including intraoperative CT scanning for spine surgery, to the Atlanta medical community. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and served as chief of surgery at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.

Dr. Steuer views lifelong activity as the key to maintaining spinal wellness and overall health. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three beautiful children, golfing, and going on annual canoe trips to Canada. Dr. Steuer warmly welcomes patients to Polaris Spine & Neurosurgery Center and looks forward to serving them.
